Ray Speakman

Gifted and Talented Adviser

Ray Speakman has taught in Birmingham and Warwickshire. Since leaving teaching full time in 2004 he has worked as an adviser and consultant specialising in the more able and in school intervention. Currently he is G&T national strategy coordinator for Warwickshire, West Midlands' regional coordinator for G&T, particularly on the dissemination of the National Quality Standards, and has worked with the National Association for Able Children in Education (NACE) on The Challenge Award. He has devised science fieldwork projects, worked closely with the Globe Programme on environmental issues, the National Space Centre, Space Connections in Yorkshire and with the Commission for Architecture in the Built Environment.

Recently, he has contributed to National Strategy advice to schools on looked after children, to a national forum on underachievement and to guidance on meeting the needs of the exceptionally able. In 2004 he won a Lifetime Achievement Award from the West Midlands' Teaching Awards Panel.
